(FREDERICTON, N.B.) - The Varsity Reds are proud to announce another successful Stewart McKelvey Think Pink Weekend at the Richard J. Currie Center and the Aitken University Centre.
Just over $9,100 was raised this season in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation between the seventh annual Shoot for the Cure, Pink in the Rink, and the funds raised during the soccer and swimming event in the fall.
"I am very excited about the amount we were able to raise for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. So many people worked very hard to make this happen," said Jeff Speedy, CIS Shoot for the Cure chair and UNB women’s basketball head coach.
"Thanks to our corporate partner Stewart McKelvey, all of our student-athletes, staff and volunteers for making this possible. Hopefully we get to celebrate finding a cure for this brutal disease very soon," continued Speedy.
A special thanks to the six individuals who donated their hair during halftime of the men's basketball game last Friday night. Hannah Currie, Rachel Cleary, Leah Bowers, Chhase McFarlen, Meghan Carson and Baylee Stockford publicly cut or shaved their hair which was donated to “Pantene Beautiful Lengths”.
Finally, the Varsity Reds would like to thank all of the volunteers, players, parents and fans who supported the CBCF initiative.
