With a weekend sweep of the StFX X-Men, the Cape Breton Capers have punched their playoff ticket for the Subway AUS Men's Basketball Championships.
The Capers hosted the X-Men on Thursday for a Valentines day matchup, where the Cape Breton edged StFX 78-73. The Capers were led by Osman Omar who posted 27 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
Cape Breton then travelled to Antigonish on Saturday night, where they earned the 104-99 victory. Jason Callaghan posted 17 points for the Capers, earning Subway player of the game honours, while Omar led his team in points with 27 on the night.
The Dalhousie Tigers also earned a weekend sweep as they hosted the UNB Reds in their final home-stand of the season. On Friday night, the Tigers were able to slowly add to their lead each quarter and hang on for the 80-72 win. Sascha Kappos finished with a game-high 23 points and five rebounds for the Tigers while Keevan Veinot earned the Subway Player of the Game title with 19 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the win.
On Saturday, it took extra time to decide the winner, but the Tigers hung on for the 78-70 overtime win. Alex Carson went 4-4 from deep to finish with 22 points to lead Dalhousie to the win.
The Saint Mary's Huskies remain undefeated on the season, now extending their record to 19-0 for a huge 52 points. The Huskies swept the Memorial Sea-Hawks this weekend, playing to a huge 113-65 win on Saturday night, followed by a 91-71 victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Acadia Axemen and UPEI Panthers split their games this weekend, both walking away with a win as both teams look to clinch a playoff position. On Friday, the Axemen took down the Panthers 90-78 in Charlottetown. UPEI bounced back on Saturday evening, earning a 91-85 victory. In his final home game as a Panther, Milorad Sedlarevic posted a game-high 25 points to be named Subway Player of the Game.
