AUS Men's Hockey Weekly Round Up: Week 14

Wednesday, Jan. 31

Moncton 1 vs. Dalhousie 2 (Box Score)
(HALIFAX, N.S.) Celebrating the Bell Let's Talk initiative, the Dalhousie Tigers hosted l'Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus at the Halifax Forum. It took a late goal to put the Tigers ahead, but they were able to hold on for the 2-1 win to earn their fourth straight victory. Colton Heffley opened the scoring for the Tigers with a powerplay tally at the 8:00 minute mark of the opening frame to give Dalhousie the lead heading into the second. Moncton's Robbie Graham tied the game at 1-1 with a powerplay goal in the second to keep the Aigles Bleus alive, but another powerplay goal from Dalhousie's Jonathan Cyr with just over three minutes remaining in regulation sealed the deal for the Tigers. Friday, Feb. 2

UPEI 6 vs. Acadia 3 (Box Score)
(WOLFVILLE, N.S.) The Acadia Axemen continued their cold streak, dropping their fifth straight game in regulation, this time 6-3 to the UPEI Panthers. Despite an attempted comeback late in the game, the Axemen could not make up for their poor first period, which saw them give up three goals. Goals from the Panthers in the win came from Gabe Geurtler, Marcus Power (2), Darcy Ashley (2), and a short-handed tally from Nathan Yetman. Axemen goals came from Taylor Makin, Ryan Foss (PP), and Geoff Schemitsch. Read more: Recap 

UNB 5 vs. Saint Mary's 4 (Box Score)
(HALIFAX, N.S.) The UNB Varsity Reds picked up a 5-4 victory over the Saint Mary's Huskies Friday night at the Halifax Forum. Christopher Clapperton led the way for UNB with a hat trick, with teammates Tyler Boland and Mark Simpson also getting on the board for the Varsity Reds. Calder BrooksThomas StavertStephen Johnson, and Hunter Garlent scored for the Huskies, while UNB's Alex Dubeau finished with 26 saves to pick up his 14th win of the season. Dalhousie 7 vs. StFX 3 (Box Score)
(ANTIGONISH, N.S.) The visiting Dalhousie Tigers extended their winning streak to five games with a 7-3 upset over the StFX X-Men Friday evening at the Charles V. Keating Centre. Seven different Tigers found the back of the X-Men net. Read more: Recap

UNB 3 vs. Acadia 4 (OT) (Box Score
(WOLFVILLE, N.S.) The Acadia Axemen snapped a five-game losing streak in dramatic fashion, downing the UNB Varsity Reds 4-3 in overtime. Kyle Farrell notched two goals in the win, while Remy Giftopoulos scored the OT winner 1:30 into the extra frame. Read more: Recap

UPEI 1 vs. Saint Mary's 9 (Box Score)
(HALIFAX, N.S.) The Saint Mary's Huskies halted their three-game slide with a 9-1 victory over the UPEI Panthers at the Halifax Forum Saturday night. It was a balanced attack from the Huskies. Jake Coughler and Anthony Repaci scored twice, while Taylor BurkeBronson BeatonCalder BrooksAlex Cord and Aaron Berisha each added a goal. Eric Brassard finished with 11 saves in his ninth win of the season, with Jake Couglher earning Subway Player of the Game honours for the Huskies. Moncton 2 vs. StFX 5 (Box Score)
(ANTIGONISH, N.S.) The U SPORTS No. 1 ranked StFX X-Men bested the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus by a 5-2 score Saturday night at the Charles V. Keating Centre. Goals from the X-Men in the win came from Holden Cook, Michael Clarke, Craig Duininck (PP), and Mark Tremaine as he added two powerplay tallies on the night to earn Subway player of the game honours.
