The Saint Mary's Huskies faced the StFX X-Men twice in week 6 action, walking away with two victories to extend their win streak to three and rise up the AUS men's hockey standings.
Wednesday evening, the Huskies shut out the X-Men 4-0 at the Charles V. Keating Centre. Veteran Huskies forward Stephen Johnson netted a hat trick in the victory. The fourth goal of the victory was a short-handed empty net tally from Jonathan Hampton, while Huskies goaltender Eric Brassard made 25 saves in the shutout.
The Huskies then hosted the X-Men in Halifax Saturday night, where Connor McGlynn scored the shootout winner to give Saint Mary's the 2-1 victory. McGlynn earned Player of the Game honours for his game winning efforts. Goals in regulation came from Saint Mary's Stephen Johnson and StFX's Mark Tremaine.
The UNB Reds also extended their win streak to three this weekend with wins over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus and the UPEI Panthers.
On Wednesday evening, Mark Rassell (Calgary, AB) scored twice to lead the Reds to a 4-2 win over the Aigles Bleus. Stephen Anderson and Patrick Watling both scored on the power play for the Reds in the win. Moncton goals came from Joey Richard and Maxime St-Cyr (PP).
The Reds then doubled the Panthers 6-3 Saturday night with Matthew Boucher netting four goals in the win. Other UNB tallies came from Olivuer LeBlanc and Tyler Boland (PP), with Owen Headrick, Doug Blaisdell and Conor MacEachern finding the back of the net for the Panthers in the loss.
Despite their loss to the Reds Saturday evening, the Panthers split their weekend games as they edged the Aigles Bleus 3-2 in overtime Friday night with Kyle Maksimovich scoring in the extra frame for the victory. UPEI's Riley Whittingham (PP) and Jordan Maher also found the back of the net in the win, with Moncton's Alexandre Jacob and Edouard Michaud scoring in the loss.
The U SPORTS No. 5 ranked Acadia Axemen extended their winning streak to nine games Friday eveing to improve to 9-1 with a convincing 4-1 win over the visiting StFX X-Men. Acadia goals came from Cristiano Digiacinto, Garrett McFadden (PS), Johnny Corneil and Jack Flaman (EN), with the lone X-Men goal scored by Adam Laishram.
